What is Live Operating System? What is Live Linux CD or USB?

What is Live Operating System?

What is Live Linux CD or USB?

What is Live Linux / Windows?

Generally, the Live Operating System CD or USB or Virtual Disk available on the Internet in the image format.

Actually, the Live operating system means it doesn’t require the Hard Disk Drive to run i.e. no installation is required. It directly starts from the Media in which we are executing whether i.e. CD or USB.

What happens inside is whenever we boot this media after downloading the image and creating the media directly instead of copying, then it automatically becomes bootable and whenever we run this media it will boot into the system and runs in the RAM of the system. Some times, we can even remove this CD when the Live OS is less in size and use different CD’s or USB drives to access them instantly on this System.

This also helps us to diagnose the Operating system failures or Hardware failures.

When we remove the media and restart the system, you will get back to your System loaded previous operating system. As it was there in the RAM only not in the Hard Disk Drive.

Some of the Distributions even they are offering the feature to install the same operating system, when you are satisfied with the Operating System and wants to use the same on daily routine.

Many of the Linux Distros are available in the form of live operating system and some of the distros are mentioned below:
